Tday is quite a meaningful day for us again. This is because one of the hong kong university is having their information day today. Which is like an open house. We visited their university today and it was rather big than our school or HK-IVE. We visited several booths whereby we were told of the courses that were offered and what will the students learn. Is bascially of what we are learning now just that they start rom the introduction and will go in depth. We also attended their lab tour whereby we enter some of their labs and the technicians there demostrated some of the basic experiments. It includes, spread plate, gel electophorosis and many more. But one that interest us was the gentics in fruit flies whereby they extract the DNA in houseflies and sing a way called recessive and dormant to play around with it that why the fruit flies samples that were shown to us were of these characteristics. (red eye, No wings and having a bar above their eyes.) Next we saw a demostration of the PCR reactions and we have a hands on on that.
We also went to food science lab whereby they were doing pasterisation and we took our weight based on our height and found out our percentage of fats in our body...

Today, it was a lesson which last the whole day for us. In the morning was the practical lesson on biochemical techniques which is 4 hours long. But it was quite exhausting for us as we couldnt absorb much. But lucky for us they were doing the things that we have done before, which is measuring the absorbance of the solution using spectrophotometer. This is the first time which i uses a different model spectrophotometer from what i am doing in school. But lucky, Dr. Bessie Fong who is our lecturer guided us on how to use this spectrophotometer. The practical lesson half an hour late for us as there was a problem with the machine we are using thus we need to switch to another one. We were hungry and tired when we finish our lessons. We decided to have our lunch at the nearest shopping mall which is beside the mtr station. It happen that our next lesson starts at 2 hours later. But in the practical, it was the first time we do without any gloves on..
In the afternoon, we have a practical lesson on toxicology whereby we just sit in. We will not be graded on this module. But in this practical is all actually to test whether the chemicals we are using are toxic to seeds likme green bean. In this practical, we are using green beans as the seeds, mouth wash(oral B), dettol as the chemical. The seeds are implant in a zip lock bag whereby chemicals are poured in and the napkins abosrbs the chemicals. But is was quite interesting for us. We were invited from our groups that we were posted to see the results on monday whereby the seeds will starts to germinate.
We return to the hostel at about 7-8pm as we went to buy some microwave food to replace our usual cup noodles. Thus, it is better than eating cup noodle. Shocking , we return to the hostel with no internet service. Thus, we cant view our emails and do our daily blog.
